Pluralisme voor studenten ontwikkelingseconomie

In dit artikel beschrijf ik mijn pluralistische economiecursus voor studenten uit ontwikkelingslanden en hoe de studenten die ervaren in mijn ogen. Het artikel begint met de constatering dat, hoewel er grote verschillen zitten in de achtergrond van de studenten, ze allemaal de trends van globalisering en daaraan gerelateerde steeds kleinere economische beleidsruimte herkennen. Ze beseffen dat ze allemaal maar een economisch vertoog kennen met dezelfde set aan beleidsinstrumenten. Dat leidt tot dezelfde kritische vragen uit Afrika, Azie en Latijns-Amerika over hoe het anders kan dan de neoliberale gemene deler. Dat is het moment waarop ik heb vertel over andere economische theorieen en visies, van Marx tot Keynes en van Veblen tot Ostrom. Het artikel gaat nader in op het onderwerp marktwerking en op geld, om te illustreren hoe ik voorbeelden uit verschillende ontwikkelingslanden gebruik. De studenten blijken het pittig te vinden om steeds weer verschillende theoretische perspectieven voorgeschoteld te krijgen. Maar ik zie ook opluchting, omdat ze inzien dat er meer is dan mainstream economie en dus ook meer dan daarop gebaseerd neoliberaal beleid
